- Auckland's best kept secret - Watercare's Rain Forest Express departs from Jacobsons' Depot off Scenic Drive, Titirangi. The tramline runs for six kilometres along the southern flanks of the Waitakere Ranges through luxuriant native rain forest. Phone 09 634-4809.
- Take a drive south to Waiuku, visit the Glenbrook steam trains on the way and then head to Karioitahi to see a wild west coast beach. Choose a day with a westerly wind and you could see 30 hang-gliders in the air at once. Have a meal at Castaways on top of the cliff where the hang-gliders land.
