The Weatherlink IP allows you to post your weather data directly to the Internet without a PC. If you wish, install the included Weatherlink software and also review your data on your PC. The equipment is very popular with flying clubs, boat clubs, hotels and anyone who wants their current weather to be easily found by club members, customers or the public.

Installing the Vantage Pro 2

These boxes arrived by courier and contain a Cabled Vantage Pro2 with the Weatherlink IP in the smaller box. A wireless installation would have been a bit easier but I was replacing an old Weather Monitor II so the cable holes were already made. Click on image to view a larger picture.

Opening and checking the boxes shows the console, manuals, ISS (Integrated Sensor Suite) and anemometer. 100 feet (30M) of cable was supplied, more than enough to run down from the roof top to a good location for the console. I had to purchase 15M of Ethernet cable as my Internet router is in another room and the supplied 5 ft cable was too short.

Two hours of installation had the console running, and working through the Setup procedure in the manual. The settings were remembered even though the system was de-powered to install WeatherlinkIP. You will need your latitude, longtitude, elevation, time zone.

The anemometer comes with 40 ft of cable (12M) and can be located some distance from the ISS with temperature, humidity and rain collector. I chose to mount it all on our TV aerial, but Davis recommend the anemometer be 2.1M (7 ft) clear of the rooftop. As this installation is not for professional data recording I chose the easy path. Also we have some big trees close by.

Weatherlink IP was plugged into the router and found its website at: www.weatherlink.com/user/binary It was necessary to log in with the supplied number and password. Now the world can see the weather in Manurewa, Auckland, New Zealand! Updated automatically each minute! Weatherlink was later installed on my PC and finds the station on the LAN (local area network) and downloads it for charts, plots, archives and uploading to other weather sites.
